Full-time P.E. Teacher & Gymnastics Coach

Great Lakes Adventist Academy (9–12)
Posted: Oct. 20, 2022 | Résumés due: Jan. 31, 2023

Great Lakes Adventist Academy is searching for a full-time P.E. teacher and Aerokhanas gymnastics coach beginning with the 2023-2024 school year who is committed to the mission and message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and is passionate about ministering to young people. Great Lakes Adventist Academy is a 9-12 grade boarding academy located in Cedar Lake, Michigan and it serves approximately 170 students. GLAA was established in 1987 when Cedar Lake Academy (est. 1898) and Adelphian Academy (est. 1904) merged to become one school, and the school is well established and rich with history. GLAA is known for its strong academics, traditional Adventist values, and its family atmosphere. To learn more, visit the GLAA Facebook page or the website at www.glaa.net. The Aerokhanas gymnastics team is a spiritually-focused, outreach touring group that is well-established and thriving. Because GLAA does not participate in an interscholastic sports program, this gives ample time and focus to the growth and development of the team. Students and staff are all welcome and encouraged to participate in the active and well-attended intramurals program offered at GLAA. Aside from teaching P.E., Beginning Gymnastics, and Aerokhanas, the new coach and teacher will be responsible for teaching 2-3 additional classes which will be dependent on the candidate’s certification/experience. Responsibilities will include running a successful intramurals program (instead of traditional evening and weekend supervision duties), class/organization sponsorship, and any additional duties outlined by the principal. We have a very close-knit school family, and the ideal candidate will be a team player who is willing to be part of a wonderful, supportive school family.

Experience: Applicants must be committed Seventh-day Adventist church members in good standing and possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree. Preference may be given to teachers who have at least 3 years of teaching experience and gymnastics coaching experience. Applicants must be denominationally certified and will also need to become Michigan state certified. Wages will be based on the Lake Union Wage Scale. The candidate must possess strong verbal and written communication skills in English and must already be eligible to work in the United States. Please note that resumes will be reviewed as they are received with interviews scheduled on an ongoing basis. The position may be filled prior to the posting expiration date.
